How Do Faith, Hope and Love Relate?
"Three things will last forever—faith, hope, and love—and the greatest of these is love. 1 Corinthians 13:13 (NLT)
What does this really mean - without trying to over-analyse the verse? This was my question as I read this, so here are some thoughts.
The words hope, believe, faith and love are interspersed throughout this chapter. They are interrelated.
"...if I have all faith... but have not love, I am nothing." (verse 2).
Verse 7 says, "Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things."
However, love is the greatest because it gives the right direction and the right motivation to faith and hope.
Love is the fire, the purifier of faith and hope. It is the eternal ingredient of all relationships and of life itself.
Love is of God and true love is God made visible. "God is Love"!
