discouragement, depression

Why am I discouraged? Why am I restless? I trust you, Lord! And I will praise you again because you help me, and you are my God.  - Psalms 42:11 (CEV)

Why are you down in the dumps, dear soul? Why are you crying the blues? Fix my eyes on God - soon I’ll be praising again. He puts a smile on my face. He’s my God. - Psalms 42:11 MSG

The Psalms are full of praise and worship and celebrating all that God has done - with the expectation of God performing miracles both today and in future.

The Psalms are also filled with the brutally honest anguish of the soul. Sadness. Longing. Confusion. Agonising waiting. Guilt. Shame. Anger. Desire for revenge... and probably every other human emotion.

These are the emotional capacities God has given us - unlike the animal kingdom - to feel and express our deepest humanity. These emotions and experiences draw us to God. He knows it all. He knows exactly how we feel, but He longs for our communion with Him.

As you express whatever "psalm" you have inside of you, know that He loves you as only our Father can. He hears every breath, every word and every need beneath. Jesus loves you and showed it by coming to earth!
