Generous And Free Giving: No Tithing
Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously. 2 Corinthians 9:6 (NIV)
The verses in the next section (from another Bible version) indicate God's view on giving both in the church, to missions and personally.
We should give voluntarily, as much as what we decide - not feel pressured to do.
Controversially speaking, there is no reference to tithing here nor in any direct New Testament teaching. The priciple is clear. Give as you discern and with love not compulsion. Most churches force tithing on people through legalistically using the Old testament laws, to get funds in the bank account!
If any, Paul would have used this opportunity to teach on tithing. He did not - nor elsewhere in his extensive teaching on giving and receiving - even in Phillipians 4, as another example, where he dealt with gifts and giving and God as the source of our supply.
"Remember: A stingy planter gets a stingy crop; a lavish planter gets a lavish crop. I want each of you to take plenty of time to think it over, and make up your own mind what you will give. That will protect you against sob stories and arm-twisting. God loves it when the giver delights in the giving.
God is able to provide you with every good gift. Therefore, in every situation you will have all that you need. Then you will have more than enough for every good work. The Scripture (*Old Testament) says, ‘The righteousness of the person who gives generously to poor people will last for ever.’ He who supplies seed to sow and bread to eat will supply you.
He will increase your resources, like seed. He will produce a rich reward, like the harvest, from your generosity. He will always make you rich enough to be generous at all times. Many will thank God for your generous gifts. They will receive the gifts by us." 2 Cor: 8-11 EasyEnglish Bible 2018
