Why are you down in the dumps, dear soul?
doubt, depression, discouragement
Why are you down in the dumps, dear soul? Why are you crying the blues? Fix my eyes on God— soon I’ll be praising again. He puts a smile on my face. He’s my God. The Message (MSG)
Why art thou cast down, O my soul? And why art thou disquieted within me? Hope thou in God; For I shall yet praise him, who is the health of my countenance, and my God. King James Version (KJV)
What does this Psalm mean?
When we focus on the negative, on what's hard, unfair or distressing, we can be easily overwhelmed. When we remind ourselves of the goodness of God at all times, however, we can find a sense of renewed strength and hope. Determine to praise the Lord, no matter what. In Him, hope is always found!
This is how I felt early this morning - down in the dumps! It comes and goes. Strange thing after prayer, and agonising while walking about in my room, I decided to have some stronger coffee after my daily exercises and strong coffee - stronger than usual -over the next 30-45 minutes I started to stabilise and I could get on with my job (and record this post).
I'm not saying it will work for you, or even for me tomorrow, but praise, prayer and a solid coffee may just help our blues... even for some hours. Let us know if it works for you.
