“Forgive us as we forgive others...
If you forgive the failures of others, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you don’t forgive others, your Father will not forgive your failures. Matthew 6:12, 14-15 (GW)

This is a strong incentive for us to forgive others before we ask God to forgive us.

And of course, we want the peace of God in our hearts, which comes when we forgive others.

This would not be possible, were Jesus not looking forward to His own death, knowing He would die for us all - setting the example for us to walk in His steps.

This is the real motivation to forgive because He first forgave us our sins, by dying for our sins.
