The Jesus People Movement - what was that? Is it over?

Many people not around in the 60s and 70s have heard of the Jesus Movement. What was (is) that all about?

The Jesus People Movement was (and is still) God crashing into our planet and our hearts - a revolution of his power and love. It happened amidst the Hippy Movement of "peace, love and joy" produced by sex, rock and roll, and drugs like LSD and other psychedelics.

The Jesus Movement still impacts the lives of many worldwide and is still here in my heart and soul - because of Christ's revolution and foundation in my life.

For me, it began in early June 1973 in Cape Town, South Africa. I finally responded to the invitation of Christ on 9 June 1973, when I was 16 years old in my hometown, Bloemfontein!

Jesus liberated and set me free, gave me a new life, and put hope and love into my life. Hope, specifically for my brother (into drugs and a hippie lifestyle) and my parents, that they could come to God and stop drinking.

It is now Sunday, 23 June 2024 and I hunger for the touch of God again, as he filled me with the Holy Spirit and began to use me at school and among youth at that time and beyond. I'm rather dry now and deeply desire a touch of his power as I experienced in the 70s and early 80s!

As I reflect on my journey with Jesus since the initial move in my spirit in 1973, I can see Jesus move distinctly from 1980 to 1985 with another band of believers. One group was the Friday Night group. It happened in Bloemfontein while I was studying for my degree in social work, that God called me to in 1979. Then another series of visitations in Muizenberg and Lakeside during and after Covid in 2021-2023 with the start of the Stone Fire Community - online church.
