Let Creation Speak - The Earth And All Cosmos

For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well. Psalm 139:13-14 (ESV)

The last words in verse 14 jumped out at me. "my soul knows it very well".

I think this caught my attention due to my current studies in Apologetics, as part of my Theology training.

Stay with me and let me explain. According to Wikipedia, "apologetics is the religious discipline of defending religious doctrines through systematic argumentation and discourse. Early Christian writers who defended their beliefs against critics and recommended their faith to outsiders were called Christian apologists."

John Frame adds to this definition, saying that apologetics as a field of Christian theology, "aims to present a rational basis for the Christian faith, defend the faith against objections, and expose the perceived flaws of other world views.”

Someone else said, "...apologetics is about defending the faith and showing how Christianity makes more sense than its competitors."

So, how does apologetics relate to the above verse and the section that grabbed my attention?

Well, to defend our faith we can appeal to different things 9sources): nature; rational facts; historic evidence; evidence in the extensive documents available and written by Christians and non-Christians; Biblical evidence and records; scientific evidence and many other sources to appeal to.

There is another approach to defending our faith (e.g. to prove the existence of God) is through existential reality - that's the name I give it as I have not yet seen this as an approach per se in apologetics.

The segment of the verse above appeals to the nature of someone’s existence (how they are, how they exist). The Psalmist looks at the reality of his life and he states, "You formed me… my soul knew it well". Psalms 139:13-14

How do we know the wind exists on earth? We see it's invisible powerful impact - we feel it - we experience it. We cannot put it in a test tube or under an electron microscope. It can never be quantified. And this a scientist will accept – an atheist will accept as “science” with scientific proof.

Let us try and put “love” under that same electron microscope. The same holds for "love". It is invisible. Also inexplicable. Yet it is so powerful and every human being senses it, feels it or longs for it!

This is the existential argument for love, for the wind and for the fact that our soul hungers for God, in part because "my soul knows full well" it has been shaped by an Intelligent Mind and a Loving Heart!

This is my story, that I had a personal encounter with Jesus Christ through several incidents that lead to 9 June 1973, when I made a decision to become His disciple. And now I know God in a very personal way - I cannot explain this in scientific terms but neither can I dismiss my experience because it does not fit into some or other imperfect scientific model of reality.

I talk to Him. He talks back at me in a multitude of ways - the Scriptures, nature, freak collisions of events, people, the cosmos and in the eyes of a baby entering a new world, in such perfection, God-engineering and this, despite all the odds!

Can you really argue with that? Can you argue that because you have not yet seen God that He does not exist? That God cannot be put in a test tube?

Or is there this "soul" thing - an indivisible entity in you - that whispers "I sense... yes I know... God has created me"? And therefore that God is alive?
