If You Want To Be Great In God's Kingdom, You Must Be The Servant Of All
servant leadership, leadership
What are the three greatest and most pervasive sins and temptations in our current society?
I call the following three things (sins) the greatest temptations or god's of worship in our current society: Greed (about wealth etc.); Fame (about ego and status and pathological needs for worship and acceptance); and finally, Power.
Take a look at all the corrupt world and industry leaders and dictators and corrupt people in business - especially corporate business. They have sought power at all cost, trampling on others because of their ego but also due to their greed for wealth that is never enough like any addiction. The need for fame is twisted into the mix.
But what about church leaders? Power? Fame? Greed?
Do the three mini-god's also distract, entice and enslave them Christians and other spiritual leaders? I see this in some mega-churches and in the prosperity movement. Power? Yes! Fame? Yes! And Greed? Yes, of course. These things are written all over their New Age doctrine - with all their justifications.
Then look at the celebrities who are far too hungry for fame and get addicted to it, together with substance abuse, sexual promiscuity... and greed for wealth. together these give the celebrity a false sense of power... another addiction just gets added to the mix.
Today, yet another song from the Jesus Revolution in the 70's has returned to my mind today when I studied the following passages.
The key words that have always stuck for me is "If you want to be great in God's Kingdom, learn to be the servant of all."
The way of mankind is so diametrically different from God's. Let's look at these verses in prayerful meditation, because there is a very dee urgent call here from Jesus about leadership and living life.
“Do you want to stand out? Then step down. Be a servant. If you puff yourself up, you’ll get the wind knocked out of you. But if you’re content to simply be yourself, your life will count for plenty." Matthew 23:11-12 MSG
"Whoever wants to be great must become a servant. Whoever wants to be first among you must be your slave. That is what the Son of Man has done: He came to serve, not be served—and then to give away his life in exchange for the many who are held hostage.” Matthew 20:26-28 MSG
"The person who wants to be the most important person among you must work hard for everyone else" Matthew 20:27 EASY
"But the greatest among you will be your servant." Matthew 23:11 AMP
