How Do You Find Joy In The Dark? (Part 2)
We continue with the theme of praise and worship as disciples.
When I get the blues I find it very hard to pray, give thanks and least of all to rejoice.
What often works is this. I start at the last part of the scriptures below and work backwards.
I begin to thank God (even if I feel "nothing") for the view I have of the lake from my apartment. I thank God for the unique place and position I live in the stunning city of Cape Town.
I give thanks for the books in my apartment, the knowledge I have acquired, the life experiences - good, bad and ugly - that have shaped me.
As I do this I find myself in prayer. Prayer for my own and others needs. Prayer for the world. Prayer that the Kingdom of Christ will come... and very soon - yes, our world is corrupt and needs salvation.
Soon (even if it takes a day or so), my spirit starts to lift and I find I am rejoicing. A song is playing in my heart of praise to my Creator.
Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus. 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 NIV
Be cheerful no matter what; pray all the time; thank God no matter what happens. This is the way God wants you who belong to Christ Jesus to live. 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 MSG
