Finding Joy Amidst The Chaos
Though the fig tree should not blossom, nor fruit be on the vines, the produce of the olive fail and the fields yield no food, the flock be cut off from the fold and there be no herd in the stalls, yet I will rejoice in the Lord; I will take joy in the God of my salvation. Habakkuk 3:17-18 (ESV)
Does this make sense? Given all these calamities Habakkuk the prophet committed himself to rejoice in the Lord and "take joy in the God of my salvation."
How is this possible? No fruit. No crops. No basics to make food from. No livestock.
Does this sound familiar? Just like the story and example of Job.
This only seems possible if I don't put my faith in the visible and earthly things that are changeable.
Instead, I can choose to put my faith in God - my solid rock who will never change.
I can choose to place my faith in God's sovereignty and wisdom rather in my rational mind, which tries to answer the free-floating questions, that tend to blame God when things go wrong.
Why does this happen to me?
Why does God allow this? Where is God now?
Haven't I had enough suffering in my life?
We blame God and this plays straight into the hands of our enemy who can now further manipulate our thoughts and drop in more questions against God.
Remember, this is the age-old strategy of the enemy, to cast doubt on the character of God.
This is why the prophet chooses to worship God and find his joy in God His Saviour and Lord, whom He trusts is fair, all-knowing, righteous and full of loving wisdom and power.
Amidst your chaos, today, will you question God's integrity or choose to cuddle up in the lap of the Father and find comfort and hope there - as you praise Him rejoicing in His plans?
