A Fresh Start with God
A Fresh Start with God
At the time Jesus came, the Jewish theology about "the Christ" was a type of liberation theology. The long-awaited Messiah was seen as the one to liberate the Jewish people from the rule of the Roman Empire.
Their theological viewpoint was misinformed and misdirected.
Jesus came to liberate the whole of mankind from the rule of sin and its consequences. His mission went to the core of humanity's problems - not just for the Jewish People.
At the very first encounter, John the Baptist had with Jesus, he saw Jesus' mission with total clarity.
Jesus came to set us free - from our sin and slavery to sin.
The real liberation.
The very next day, John saw Jesus coming to him to be baptized, and John cried out, “Look! There he is—God’s Lamb! He takes away the sin of the entire world! John 1:29 TPT
The very next day John saw Jesus coming toward him and yelled out, “Here he is, God’s Passover Lamb! He forgives the sins of the world! This is the man I’ve been talking about, ‘the One who comes after me but is really ahead of me.’ I knew nothing about who he was—only this: that my task has been to get Israel ready to recognize him as the God-Revealer. That is why I came here baptizing with water, giving you a good bath and scrubbing sins from your life so you can get a fresh start with God.” John 1:29-31 MSG
